Set Special Permissions for an Enterprise Project

Set Special Permissions for an Enterprise Project

As the project manager of an enterprise project in Project Online or Project Server, you might encounter the need to grant special permissions to another project manager who requires access to open and edit your project. In this guide, I’ll walk you through the steps to accomplish this task easily.

Steps to Set Special Permissions

Suppose that you are managing an enterprise project in Project Online or Project Server, and that the default security settings are in place in Project Web App. This means that you are the only project manager who can view, open, edit, save, and publish your project. Suppose also that a fellow project manager needs to access your project to help you to manage the project. To grant your fellow PM special permissions for this project, complete following these steps:

  1. Using your preferred web browser, navigate to the Project Center page in Project Web App (PWA).
  2. Click the row header at the left end of the row for your specific project. This action not only selects the project but also expands the Projects ribbon at the top of the page.
  3. In the Navigate section of the Projects ribbon, click the “Project Permissions” button. This action will take you to the Permissions page for this specific project.
  4. On the Permissions page, click the “New” button to access the Edit Project Permissions page.
  5. In the list of Available Users and Groups, select the name of your fellow project manager, and then click the “Add” button (the > button) to add your fellow PM to the Users and Groups with Permissions list.
  6. In the Set Permissions section, select the checkboxes for the special permissions you want to grant to your fellow PM. To grant full permissions, for example, select every checkbox.
  7. Click the “Save” button to save these special permissions for this one specific project.

At this point, your fellow project manager now has the necessary permissions to access, open, edit, save, and publish this project. And that’s how you specify special permissions for an enterprise project in either Project Online or Project Server! It’s a straightforward process once you know where to click.
