Why Save a Baseline in Microsoft Project?

Save a Baseline in Microsoft Project: Introduction

Have you ever wondered how to track the original start date, finish date, and other crucial data of your tasks in Microsoft Project? The solution lies in saving a baseline, which essentially captures a snapshot of vital values for every task in your project. In this guide, I’ll walk you through the simple steps to save a baseline in your Microsoft Project schedules.

When you save a baseline in Microsoft Project, it captures five essential values for each task: Duration, Start date, Finish date, Work, and Cost. Essentially, it takes a snapshot of these current values and stores them in corresponding Baseline fields. These Baseline fields hold the original task values for later comparison.

Saving a baseline is crucial for later analysis during the Execution stage of the project. It allows you to track variations and deviations from the original plan as your project progresses.
